This largely depends on your vision for the space in question. It is not about your budget, though some contractors will immediately jump to this topic. If it is right for you (the customer) a renovation can work. On the other hand, a remodel can work too. It all depends on what you are looking for in the long run and what will make sense as well.

No need to remodel if you really want some new floor tiles in your bathroom, or a new toilet bowl, right?

In our experience, typical bathroom renovations take about 3-4 weeks depending on the number of moving parts. Moving parts being floor/wall damage uncovered during the demolition/removal of the old materials. Your larger renovations and remodels should normally take about 3-6 weeks.

Overall the average you should plan for is about a month. As mentioned earlier, the factors include the current state of the bathroom, the condition of the subfloor and walls. That is the supporting structures, which hold up the new bathroom.

This is essentially true. However, in order to ensure the quality, and longevity of the finished product, the materials used will need to setup/dry properly. This is essential in order to maintain or fulfill any warranties from the manufacturers of the shower systems and/or fixtures.

Are any county, state or HOA permits required? (Sign the contract before going for permits)

This can add days or weeks to any new build or remodel. Contractors, make sure your clients know this. Clients, make sure you ask your potential contractors about this step. It is VERY important.

Are multiple contractors working on the same space? Will their work “step” on each other? Example is, is the bathroom tiler going to have to wait for the flooring guys to finish? Or does the painter need to come in before the flooring, and after the bathroom guys? These are just a few things your project manager will need to consider when planning your renovation or remodel. If it is DIY, then you need to factor these things into your timeline.
